In a new study, the secret to increase growth and reduce stunting in kids has been revealed. The study was conducted on a group of children in teh six to nine years age group. Divided into two groups, they were randomly assigned and while one group were given one egg per day for 6 months teh other was not given any. The researchers said that the children, in the treatment group, had higher dietary intakes of eggs and reduced intake of sugar-sweetened foods compared to the control group. After a certain period of time, it was found that eggs increase scores for standardised length-for-age and weight-for-age. The results indicated a reduced prevalence of stunting by 47 per cent and underweightedness by 74 per cent, said the researchers.

Elated over the results of study, Iannotti said that she was “surprised” to see the result of study that shows how effective this intervention proved to be. She said that the size of the effect was 0.63 compared to the 0.39 global average. Further counting the benefits of eggs, she called it a “complete food”. According to her, eggs are safely packaged and arguably more accessible in resource-poor populations than other complementary foods.
