Thanks to the several hours that we spend hunched over laptops and smartphones these days, cervical problems are at an all-time high. In fact, so widespread is the problem that experts say incorrect postures are leading to severe health problems. Here are ways in which you can improve your posture…
When you walk, make sure that your shoulder blades are pulled back. Not only will this give you a confident look, it will also ensure lesser pressure on your back.
An effective exercise to improve your posture includes lying down on your back and moving your arms up and down slowly. This effectively stretches your arms and torso, improving your flexibility.
If you spend hours sitting behind a computer, make it a habit to sit up straight and ensure your arms have adequate resting area. Never slouch or droop your shoulders, and ensure that your hips are firmly placed on the chair.
Another common mistake that many people make is to tilt their pelvis either in the front or back while standing. Make a conscious effort to tuck in your stomach and stand without leaning in any one direction.
Do the plank pose regularly. It strengthens shoulder and back muscles, making them stronger. Start by going on your hands and knees and place your palms exactly under your shoulders. Extend your legs straight behind you as if you are about to do a push-up. Pull your abdominal muscles in and look at the floor. Hold this pose for about 10 seconds, let go and then repeat.
